South Dakota State continues its road trip on Saturday when the Jackrabbits take on Omaha at 7 p.m. in Baxter Arena. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 72-67 defeat at Kansas City, while the Mavericks beat South Dakota 91-84 on Thursday.
Â
The Jacks and Mavs meet for the second time this season. SDSU narrowly topped Omaha 90-87 in Brookings on Jan. 18. The Jackrabbits led by as many as 14 in the second half, however the Mavs cut it to a two-point margin with 48 seconds left. SDSU's
Charlie Easley scored the Jackrabbits' last nine points, which included four free throws in the final 25 seconds, en route to the win at home. Five Jacks scored in double digits led by 21 from Mayo and 17 from Easley.
Â
SDSU returns to play following a tightly played contest at Kansas City Thursday. Despite trailing for nearly the entire game, the Jacks worked back from an eight-point second half deficit to tie the score at 52 with 7:01 remaining. Just 17 seconds later, Kansas City re-gained the lead. SDSU then cut the deficit to 62-61 with 1:46 to play, but consecutive Roos field goals put the game out of reach.
Â
Omaha is in the midst of its final homestand of the season. The Mavericks completed their first regular season sweep over the Coyotes since 2018-19. Omaha was led by a Marquel Sutton double-double and 23 points from Frankie Fidler.Â
Â
The Jacks have won nine straight games against the Mavericks. In that stretch, just two have come in Omaha. SDSU has won four of the last six meetings in Omaha against the Mavs. Omaha is 25-20 all-time on their home court versus SDSU.Â
Â
SDSU has several notable top 10 program marks on the radar. Mayo has scored 1,405 points which ranks 14th in program history. The junior guard is 45 points away from being 10th.
William Kyle III is three blocks away from entering SDSU's all-time chart. His 80 career blocks just trail Adam Robinson who sits at 83. Easley has 142 steals which already ranks 10th all-time. He's four away from surpassing Jason Sempsrott.
Â
South Dakota State is a half game from the top spot in the Summit League standings at 7-4. North Dakota is atop the ledger at 8-4. Omaha is tied for fifth with Kansas City with each owning 6-6 records.
