TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Jackrabbits held a lead over the 16th-ranked Seminoles in game one, while they stuck with Florida State in game two, before falling in a pair of meetings at JoAnne Graf Field. SDSU lost 11-5 in the opener of the doubleheader to the reigning national runner-up before a six-inning 8-0 loss in the second game.
Game One
SDSU (13-16) rallied from an early hole to take a lead in the top of the fifth, however a big bottom half of the frame led to an 11-5 win for the home side.
The Seminoles (17-5) capitalized in the first. Florida State scored three runs on one hit and four walks to jump ahead by a 3-0 margin. SDSU reliever
Alexa Williams came in and faced four batters and picked up all three outs in the inning.
South Dakota State cut into the deficit and made it 3-2 in the third with all two runs coming with two outs.
Mia Jarecki hit a double and was plated on an RBI double by
Akayla Barnard.
Emma Osmundson then hit an RBI single to cap the Jackrabbit scoring in the frame.
Williams pitched three consecutive scoreless innings to keep the SDSU in contention.
The Jackrabbits jumped ahead in the top of the fifth inning.
Kaylee Kardash came on to pinch run for the Jackrabbits and she sat on second base with two outs. Osmundson struck out, but a wild pitch allowed her to reach first base. A series of errors allowed Kardash to come all the away around to score, while Osmundson winded up at third base.
Lindsey Culver followed by hitting an RBI double to put SDSU on top, 4-3.
Rozelyn Carrillo made it back-to-back RBI doubles as her at-bat made it a 5-3 score in favor of the Jacks.
The nationally-ranked Seminoles responded in their next at-bat. Florida State produced eight runs on six hits, which included a grand slam, to push the Seminoles back atop the scoreboard with an 11-5 margin.
SDSU was held hitless over the next two innings of action. Five different Jackrabbits had base hits in the game while five individuals also scored runs. Williams pitched 4 1/3 innings in the circle for the Jacks and was credited with the loss.
Hailey Herman threw 1 1/3 innings and allowed just a hit in her relief appearance.
Game Two
Florida State scored two runs apiece in the second and third innings, then closed the cap to the doubleheader in the sixth with four runs as the Seminoles earned an 8-0 victory.
The Seminoles registered nine hits in the game while limiting the Jackrabbits to two. Barnard and Jarecki each hit singles for SDSU.
The Jackrabbits received a boost in the circle thanks to another relief appearance from Herman. She worked 3 1/3 innings and didn't allow a run through the first 2 1/3 innings. She gave up four runs, just one earned, on four hits and three walks.

South Dakota State heads to Lexington, Kentucky, to participate in Kentucky's John Cropp Classic. The scheduled has been adjusted due to expected inclement weather on Friday. The Jackrabbits will play consecutive games on Thursday, March 14, starting with a 2 p.m. CT meeting against Ohio State. The Jacks will then face the host Wildcats at 5 p.m.
