SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State swept the TicketSmarter Summit League baseball weekly awards Monday with outfielder Cael Frost earning the Peak Performer honor and right-hander Jake Goble receiving Peak Pitcher recognition.
Â
A junior from Gilbertville, Iowa, Frost led the Jackrabbits at the plate in winning three of four games in a weekend series from SIU-Edwardsville. He batted .444 (8-for-18) with two home runs, three doubles and eight runs batted in, also compiling a .944 slugging percentage. Frost's second home run of the series was a three-run blast in the top of the seventh inning that allowed SDSU to complete a sweep of a March 2 doubleheader.
Â
Frost hit safely in all four games to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and recorded three multi-hit games. He joined Dawson Parry on Feb. 19 as Jackrabbit players to receive the weekly Peak Performer award this season.
Â
Goble, a junior from Rapid City, recorded career highs of eight strikeouts and eight innings pitched en route to the win in the first game of the March 2 twinbill. He allowed one run while scattering five hits — all singles — and walking one. He retired nine batters in a row in one stretch between the fifth and eighth innings.
Â
SDSU, 6-6 overall, returns to action with a four-game weekend series March 8-10 at Dayton.
