Game Notes |
South Dakota State heads north as it continues its Summit League softball slate this weekend when the Jackrabbits take on North Dakota State. The Jacks and Bison are scheduled to begin a three-game series starting at noon on Saturday. A doubleheader opens the series, while the final game takes place at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Â
The two sides met four times during the 2024 season in Brookings. SDSU swept the regular season series at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium by scores of 4-0, 12-3 and 1-0. SDSU and NDSU then faced off in an elimination game at The Summit League Softball Championship which the Jackrabbits won in five innings, 10-2. The Bison hold a 75-59 all-time record over the Jacks, but SDSU has won the last 12 meetings.
Â
SDSU enters this weekend's series with a 24-18 overall record. The Jacks are 8-0 this season in league action. North Dakota State sits 16-25 overall and is third in the conference standings with a 3-3 mark. The Bison swept St. Thomas in a three-game series prior to recently dropping two of three in a series at UNLV.
Â
The Jackrabbits are off to an undefeated start in Summit League action. SDSU began the league stretch with a doubleheader sweep of South Dakota. The Jacks then beat North Dakota in a three-game series, which was originally scheduled for Brookings, played in Council Bluffs, Iowa, due to weather. Last weekend, the Jackrabbits played on its home field for the first time in 2024 hosting Kansas City. SDSU earned 8-1, 5-2 and 11-1 victories over the Roos.Â
Â
SDSU had several standouts at the plate versus Kansas City.
Mia Jarecki,
Lindsey Culver and
Brooke Dumont each had multiple hits in the game one victory. Dumont, along with
Madi Conklin, had multiple hits in game two. However, a three-run triple by
Rozelyn Carrillo proved to be the difference in the 5-2 win. Eight players had hits in the third game, which included an
Emma Osmundson grand slam, as the Jacks defeated the Roos in five innings.Â
Â
The Jacks continue to get strong pitching in Summit League play. Though
Tori Kniesche gave up her first runs of conference action versus the Roos, she still sports a 0.23 ERA.
Shannon Lasey, who earned the complete game victory in the second game of the series against Kansas City, has a 1.11 ERA in three starts.
Â
Kniesche continued her reign of Summit League TicketSmarter Peak Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday. She earned her third straight accolades, as well as fourth this season and 17th of her career. She gave up one earned run across two starts while striking out 18 batters and walking three. Dumont claimed her first Peak Performer of the Week award of her career. The SDSU catcher was 6-for-9 at the plate against the Roos. She had a home run, double and seven RBIs.
Â
The Jackrabbits have now won 41 straight league games in regular season action dating back to the 2022 season. Following Oklahoma's series defeat at the hands of Texas last weekend, SDSU now owns the longest active streak of regular season conference wins in Division I softball.
Â
SDSU's current winning streak of 11 games is one of the longest in the country. The Jackrabbits win streak is the third best at this time. It trails Miami's 15-game stretch and 12 straight wins for St. Francis.
Â
SDSU is playing its fourth of six Summit League series this weekend. The Jacks have next weekend off and make up for it by playing non-conference games at Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Summit League Tournament takes place in Brookings from May 8-11.
