AZUSA, CA – The South Dakota State track and field team continued to make the most of a trip out west as the Jackrabbits collected five all-time performances along with several new personal bests in Friday action.
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
All five of the newest Top 10 marks in school history for the Jacks came from Azusa, starting with
Carson Noecker's performance in the Open B section of the 5000-meter run. He took fourth overall with a clocking of 14:08.02, which is now the ninth fastest time.
Cody Larson ran his second personal best and SDSU Top 10 time in as many days, this time in the 5000-meter run. His clocking of 14:03.90 was good enough for eighth place in heat two of the Open A section.
Brandon Kampsen took third in heat 16 and 62
nd overall in the invite 800-meter run after clocking a time of 1:50.40. He now sits ninth on the All-Time List.
Ryan Benson finished fifth in Group D of the decathlon, scoring a personal best 6572 points. He improved his mark to remain sixth in school history.
Jessica Lutmer also made moves in SDSU history, climbing to fifth all-time in the women's 5000-meter run. With her time of 16:47.26, she finished 18
th in heat two of the Open A section of the event.
In additional events,
Daniel Burkhalter (1:52.63) finished sixth in heat 12 of the open 800-meter run for 68
th overall.
Jackson Dutcher (1:54.57, PR) won heat 20 and was 133
rd overall as
Andrew Moeller (1:55.03) was seventh in heat 15 and 145
th overall.
Claire Beckman ran a 2:11.22 for eighth in heat four of the open 800-meter run (42
nd overall) as
Grace Waage clocked a PR of 2:11.73 for fifth in heat nine (60
th overall). They were joined in the event by
Harley Fischer (2:16.57, 11
th in heat 13, 159
th overall) and
Reese Luze (2:18.24, eighth in heat 15, 199
th overall).
In the Open B 5000-meter run,
Nicole Greyer ran a personal best of 17:00.71 for 24
th place as
Caitlin Bright finished 42
nd in a 17:07.35.
BEACH INVITATIONAL
Over in Long Beach,
Hunter Wallster finished 10
th in flight four of the men's Gold Invitational Hammer Throw and 32
nd overall with a mark of 186-08.00
Through the Friday portion of the men's long jump,
Rylan McDonnell currently sits sixth with a leap of 22-11.75 and
Hudson Schroeder is 21
st with a 21-04.00. Flight six through nine will compete tomorrow.
Nora Peterson took third in flight two of the women's javelin throw with a 139-05.00, finishing 23
rd overall.
In the Friday 200-meter dash,
Jessica Boekelheide clocked a 26.00 to finish seventh in her heat and 31
st overall.
LEOPARD DISTANCE CARNIVAL
Will Lohr represented the Jackrabbits well in La Verne, clocking a huge collegiate PR of 14:28.64 in the men's 5000-meter run to take first in heat three and 12
th overall in the event.
His most previous race in the 5k for the yellow and blue resulted in a time of 15:14.31, making Friday's performances quite the improvement.
Competition for the Jackrabbits will resume on Saturday at two different meets in California and the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion.
