BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State begins a stretch of five consecutive road matches on Monday when the Jackrabbits face Northern Colorado in Greeley at 8 p.m. CT. As part of a three-game road trip, the Jacks then head to Colorado College to take on the Tigers Thursday at 7 p.m. SDSU plays at Wyoming at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, before the Jackrabbits head back to Brookings.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits opened the season this past Thursday at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings against Kansas.
Laney Murdzek scored a 20th minute goal to put SDSU ahead first, but a pair of goals in the first half for the Jayhawks proved to be the difference in the season opener for both sides.
Â
SDSU and Kansas played a nearly even match at the Jackrabbits' home facility Thursday. The Jacks outshot the Jayhawks 13-12, but Kansas had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Jackrabbits had earned victories in consecutive seasons over Big 12 opponents in Kansas State and Iowa State, however Kansas improved its all-time record over SDSU to 6-0-1.
Â
Prior to the match, graduate senior defender
Kaycee Manding and senior midfielder
Avery Murdzek were named to the 2024 Mac Hermann Women's Trophy Watch List. The pair were among 44 players at the Division I level recognized. They also were highlighted on their respective positions' watch lists.Â
Â
SDSU is slated to face a former Division II foe, along with a new opponent, during its stay in Colorado. The Jackrabbits are 1-6 all-time against Northern Colorado going back to SDSU's inaugural season in 2000. The Jacks defeated the Bears in their last meeting in 2017, 2-1, held in Brookings. The Jackrabbits and Tigers will be squaring off for the first time on Thursday.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits have faced Wyoming just once. That matchup goes back to 2005 which also saw SDSU take on the Cowgirls in Laramie. That meeting ended in a 4-0 victory for Wyoming.
