CORVALLIS, ORE. — The South Dakota State women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals, after falling down by two goals in the opening 35 minutes, en route to a 3-2 victory over Oregon State at Paul Lorenz Field on Sunday. Â
Â
SDSU had to work its way back into the match despite owning the possession early. The Jackrabbits held a 4-1 edge in shots, but the Beavers were the ones to capitalize on their opportunities. A 24th minute goal by Hayden Wilson and 35th minute goal by Valerie Tobias had the home side up 2-0.Â
Â
The Jacks produced five consecutive shots in a three-minute span before eventually notching a tally on the scoreboard. A free kick opportunity in the 44th minute was initially taken by
Kaycee Manding from outside the box. Her shot was blocked by the front wall of Beavs, however the deflection went directly to
Avery Murdzek who hit a right-footed strike. Her shot hit just inside the top corner of the crossbar to cut the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.Â
Â
South Dakota State came out the aggressors in the second half and the Jackrabbits' efforts paid off. A set of passes from Hayley Lindman and
Adrianne Agbayani found Murdzek streaking into the box. She was tugged down by her jersey, leading to a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Manding stepped up for the attempt and converted, tying the score at 2-2.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits took their first lead of the contest less than two minutes later.Â
Â
Katherine Jones crossed a pass into the box to Agbayani who was met by a defender. The ball ended up at the feet of
Avery LeBlanc who swiftly booted the ball into the net, giving SDSU a 3-2 advantage in the 61st minute.Â
Â
South Dakota State stood up against the Oregon State attack from there. The Beavers put up five shots over the next 29 minutes of action, but Jackrabbit goalkeeper
Emma Knack made two saves to keep the 3-2 margin intact.Â
Â
SDSU closed out the match with the 3-2 win to improve to 6-2-1. The Jackrabbits are now unbeaten in their last six outings. Oregon State dropped to 1-6 overall.Â
