OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha used a 13-point scoring run to close the first half and carried the momentum into the second half en route to an 87-80 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Baxter Arena.Â

The Jackrabbits got out to an 11-2 lead just over three minutes into the contest. The Mavericks erased the deficit by going on a 9-0 run to make it 11-11 at the 13:43 mark.Â

SDSU jumped back into the lead and was ahead for the majority of the first half, eventually going up 29-25 with 4:40 left in the half.Â

Omaha closed the opening half behind 13 unanswered points, with seven of those coming from guard Lance Waddles, to take a 38-29 advantage heading into halftime.Â

The Mavericks went up by as many 17 less than five minutes into the second half. South Dakota State worked to trim the margin and had it down to 61-56 with 9:17 remaining. The Jacks cut the score to within four points in the final minute, but the Mavs closed out the meeting by doing enough at the free throw line.Â

Omaha improved to 10-9 overall, while staying undefeated at 4-0 in Summit League play, with the victory. South Dakota State is now 10-8 (1-2).Â

- The win for the Mavericks ended a 10-game losing streak against the Jackrabbits.
- The Mavericks finished the game shooting 48.2% from the floor and were 11-for-25 (44%) from 3-point range. They turned the ball over seven times.
- SDSU was 51% from the field, but went 8 of 25 (32%) from deep. The Jacks committed 10 turnovers.Â
- Omaha was led by Marquel Sutton, who scored 24 points and had eight rebounds, along with JJ White who also produced 24 points and dished out seven assists. Waddles added 19 for the Mavs.Â
- Kalen Garry scored a career-high 27 points on 9 of 13 shooting to carry the Jackrabbits. He also had a team-high four assists. Joining him in double digits scoring were Oscar Cluff (17) and Joe Sayler (11). Matthew Mors grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.Â

South Dakota State returns to Brookings for its next two games. The Jackrabbits host North Dakota at 7 p.m. Thursday inside First Bank & Trust Arena. They follow that with a 4:15 matchup against Oral Roberts on Saturday.Â
