South Dakota State plays two consecutive games at home this week beginning on Thursday when the Jackrabbits host North Dakota at 7 p.m. in First Bank & Trust Arena. SDSU takes on Oral Roberts at 4:15 p.m. in Brookings on Saturday.
Both SDSU and North Dakota are coming off Summit League defeats. The Jackrabbits fell twice on the road last week, falling 73-72 to St. Thomas and 87-80 at Omaha, and are 1-2 in conference action. North Dakota, which picked up its first league win topping Denver 95-70 last week, lost 83-79 at Oral Roberts on Saturday. That win for the Golden Eagles was their first in league action and they are now 1-2.Â
SDSU and North Dakota last met in the second-to-last regular season game a season ago. The Jacks defeated North Dakota in Grand Forks, 72-62, to claim the 2024 Summit League regular season title. The Jacks went on to also earn the conference's tournament championship.
The series between the two has been controlled by South Dakota State of late. The Jackrabbits are on a 17-game win streak over UND. SDSU has won 21 of the last 22 in the series which runs through the Jacks' DI era. North Dakota's last win came in Grand Forks in December of 2011, while SDSU's last defeat to North Dakota in Brookings came in 1995.
SDSU's
Oscar Cluff, despite scoring 17 points, had a span of three straight double-doubles end in Saturday's loss to Omaha. The Jacks were carried in the contest by
Kalen Garry who recorded a career-high 27 points. The two are SDSU's leading scorers in league play with Cluff averaging 20 points and 14.7 rebounds per game, while Garry is averaging 18.3 points.
SDSU is 10-8 overall while North Dakota is 7-12 heading into Thursday's matchup. The Fighting Hawks have four overall double digit scorers, but across four conference games have been led by Mier Panoam who has clips of 21.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.Â
Oral Roberts is 5-11 overall and visits Vermillion Thursday ahead of Saturday's meeting against SDSU. Senior guard Issac McBride was named Peak Performer of the Week and the USBWA National Player of the Week after scoring 36 points per game across two contests last week.
