South Dakota State continues Summit League action this week. The Jackrabbits first head to Kansas City to face the Roos in the Swinney Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday. SDSU then returns to Brookings and hosts South Dakota, as part of the Interstate Series presented by First Interstate Bank, on Saturday at 5 p.m. in First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits improved to 9-0 at home this season with a pair of victories this past week. SDSU defeated North Dakota (109-73) and Oral Roberts (84-70). The Jacks now stand at 3-2 in The Summit League standings.Â
SDSU had individual-best performances from
Joe Sayler and
Oscar Cluff. In the win versus the Fighting Hawks, Sayler scored a career-high 25 points, all of which came in the first half. The win also saw the squad record its second most points against a Division I oppponent ever, while the 36-point victory was its largest against a DI foe since the 2018-19 season.
Cluff produced a 21-point, 20-rebound effort versus the Golden Eagles. He became just the second Jackrabbit in the program's DI era to eclipse 20 rebounds in a contest. He is the fourth Division I men's player to achieve a 20-20 clip this season and was honored as the Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer of the Week.
SDSU, which stands at 12-8 overall, heads south to Kansas City with an 0-6 record in true road matchups. The Roos are 10-10 overall and 7-1 at the Swinney Center this season. The preseason pick to win The Summit League regular season title, Kansas City is 2-3 in the conference standings having lost three consecutive contests. Jamar Brown, the league Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.Â
The Roos snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Jackrabbits last season when they earned a 72-67 win on Feb. 15 in Kansas City. SDSU has won 16 of the last 18 meetings going back to the 2011-12 slate.Â
South Dakota, currently 11-9 overall and 2-3 in conference competition, plays at North Dakota Thursday. The Jacks have won eight straight against the Yotes and won 22 of the last 28. SDSU is 16-2 in Brookings against USD during the 21st Century.
