South Dakota State returns to Brookings, following a one-game road trip, to take on South Dakota Saturday in First Bank & Trust Arena. The Interstate Series matchup, presented by First Interstate Bank, is slated to tipoff at 5 p.m.
The Jackrabbits made their way back home after narrowly defeating Kansas City, 65-64, in the Swinney Center on Thursday. The contest came down to the wire as SDSU forced a turnover on Kansas City's final possession to close the game out. The Jackrabbits also had a one-point victory two seasons ago in the series, leaving the Roos' home floor with a 67-66 win during the 2022-23 season.Â
SDSU was paced in the contest by
Oscar Cluff's 23 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks. Cluff recorded his 13th double-double of the season which ranks second nationally behind Stanford's Maxime Raynaud's 16. He currently is the national leader in rebounds per game (12.3) and Player Efficiency (36.6).
The Jackrabbits improved to 13-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the win. The Jacks picked up their first true road victory this season at Kansas City. SDSU enters Saturday's meeting versus South Dakota with a 9-0 record at home this year.Â
The Coyotes are 12-9 overall and 3-3 in league action following a 102-93 victory at North Dakota Thursday. It was USD's second road victory of the season. The Yotes shot 58.5% from the field and 45.8% from deep. Leading USD in the matchup scoring were Chase Forte (25), Isaac Bruns (20) and Kaleb Stewart (15). Forte is sixth in the conference in scoring during Summit play averaging 18.8 points, while Bruns is eighth averaging 16.8. South Dakota is fifth in the nation in scoring offense averaging 86.6 points.
The rivalry series between the Jackrabbits and Coyotes is led by SDSU which holds a 139-97-1 record over USD dating back to 1915. The Jacks have an 84-23-1 record in Brookings against the Yotes, including a 17-2 mark in the 21st century.Â
The Jacks have won the last eight meetings against the Yotes. The streak is one off the longest in the series which SDSU set in a span from 1920-23. SDSU has won 22 of the last 28 matchups.
