FORT WORTH, Texas — The South Dakota State equestrian team lost its opening competition of the spring schedule to TCU, 16-4, Thursday at the John Justin Arena.

In fences, the Jackrabbits lost the discipline by a 4-1 count to the Horned Frogs. SDSU's sole point came from Sarah Gould as she won against TCU's Maggie Dumrauf, 82-80.

Lilly Goldstein of TCU scored an 85 to beat Samantha Aisenberg who finished with a 65 while Hannah Steele lost to Ella Bostwick, 84-77. Juliana Gullo (79-72 and Brooke Borges (80-69) also were defeated in the event.

Similar to fences, the Jacks finished with a 4-1 deficit at the end of the flat event. Steele added another flat win to her name after she scored SDSU's team-high score of 78 in the event on Stryker against Ashleigh Scully's 75-point ride.

Laurel Smith notched a point for TCU in her victory over Elizabeth Wagner with a final score of 82-74 while Kayla Scherer lost to Lex Lipacis, 79-72. SDSU's Sierra Elliott was out-ridden by Bostwick, 83-70, while Goldstein scored an 82, beating Kendyl Rudolf with a 72.

Adisyn Kuxhaus tallied the Jackrabbits' lone point in reining against Kaylene Cunningham, winning the battle 66.5-62.5. Though the Horned Frogs pulled away with the remaining matchups, the scores stayed tight.

SDSU newcomer Paxton Wilson lost to Jessica McAllister, 67.5-67, and Shea Graham beat Emilie Strahm, 70.5-68.5. Lydia Loken was upended by Kylie Baker, 70-67.5, and Lannie-jo Lisac out-rode Maryn Mead 69.5-65.

For horsemanship, Hannah Dutton notched her first win of the spring portion of the season against Marcella Bee, 71.5-68.

Shea Graham of earned a victory over Grace Gerbus, 75.5-66, while teammate Payton Boutelle beat SDSU's Anna Minich with a ride of 76. Brighton McBride lost her battle with Elizabeth West, 74.5-63.5, and Jessica McAllister beat Paige Wellendorf, 70.5-68, to finish out the night.

UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to take on defending national champion SMU on Friday. Competition is set for 11 a.m. at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
