GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The South Dakota State volleyball team made quick work of North Dakota Tuesday night, sweeping the Fighting Hawks in less than 90 minutes at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
The Jackrabbits got off to a slow start in the opening set but eventually pulled away to win 25-20. SDSU won set two 25-13 and set three 25-11. SDSU improves to 14-3 overall and extends its Summit League win streak to eight consecutive matches. UND falls to 5-14 on the year and 2-6 in the Summit League.
Madison Burr had a standout night for the Jackrabbits as the middle blocker posted nine kills, nine digs and seven block assists. She hit .353 on the night.
In total, SDSU notched eight blocks as a team and held UND to a negative hitting percentage for the match. After Burr,
Sylvie Zgonc and
Rylee Martin had three blocks each and
Hannah Klein added two.
The Jackrabbits' offense hit .302. Zgonc led SDSU's offense with 13 kills and had nine digs. Klein matched Burr's .353 hitting percentage with her seven kills and one error on 17 swings. Martin tallied 36 assists.
On defense,
Maggie Meister led the Jackrabbits with 12 kills and
Joslyn Richardson added 11.
North Dakota's Matthea Dalton and Paige Barber paced the Hawks with six kills apiece.
NOTES
South Dakota State leads the all-time series 64-32 and has won each of the last 11 meetings.
