Brookings, S.D. - The Jackrabbits opened up their dual season with a 46-0 shutout over Augustana at First Bank & Trust Arena on Friday night.
The dual began at 125 pounds where Brady Roark took on Augustana's Christian Olsen. After a pair of first period takedowns, Roark continued to push the pace in the second securing a tech fall,17-2, his first bonus point victory of the season.
Cale Seaton made his second dual start as he took on Brandon Board at 133 pounds. After a long scramble in the first, Seaton was able to score a takedown and turn his opponent for seven total points on his way to an 18-1 tech fall victory, four minutes and three seconds into the match. Seaton's record improves to 4-0 on the year.
Tyson Peach made his dual debut for the Jacks at 141 pounds as he took on Luke Koenen. After a scoreless first, Peach's opponent chose the bottom position in the second, which proved to be a mistake as Peach rode his opponent out for the full two-minute period. Peach finished off his match with a takedown in the third, scoring his first win of the season and first dual win of his career.
At 149 pounds, Avery Allen took on Nolan Ambrose. Allen scored two takedowns in the first, before reversing his opponent in the second. He added another takedown late in the third to secure a 12-1 major decision.
At 157 pounds, Cael Swensen made his debut in First Bank & Trust arena after sitting out last year due to injury. Swensen took on Kyle Boeke and made short work of the Viking wrestler, scoring three takedowns and a near fall in the first before adding on two more takedowns in the second to secure the 19-3 tech fall.
Marcus Espinoza-Owens stepped up at 165 pounds for the Jacks as he took on Division II's No. 15 ranked 165-pounder Peyton Handeveidt. Espinoza-Owens pushed the pace and fought off the tough Handeveidt, scoring takedowns in the first, second and third periods on his way to an 18-5 major decision.
Both Espinoza-Owens twins were in action tonight as Moses Espinoza-Owens stepped up at 174 pounds to take on Coy Gunderson. Gunderson held on for two periods, only allowing two takedowns in the first and second periods before Espinoza-Owens unleashed a scoring combo in the third. After three takedowns and a near fall in the third Moses secured a 17-2 tech fall victory.
Brock Fettig took on Owen Wasley at 184 pounds for the Jacks. Fettig started the scoring right away with a trio of takedowns in the first period. After a scoreless second, Fettig was able to score two more in the third and secure a 16-4 major decision, his first inside of First Bank & Trust Arena.
Quin Morgan took on Sam McEnelly at 197 pounds, the first dual action of his career. Morgan got off to a hot start, scoring two takedowns in the first and another in the second. From top position in the third, Morgan was able to turn his opponent in a half nelson, pinning his shoulders to the mat to secure the fall and six points for the Jacks.
Luke Rasmussen finished the night for the Jacks against Jaret Peterson. Rasmussen was able to secure a seven-point move on a takedown, near near-fall combo before adding another near-fall on top of it. After securing a takedown in the second, all that was needed for Rasmussen was an escape in the third. Rasmussen's escape secured a 15-0 tech fall for the heavyweight, his first of the season.
