South Dakota State plays its last game in the 605 State of the calendar year on Monday when the Jackrabbits take on Wyoming in Sioux Falls. The Jacks and Cowboys square off at 7 p.m. inside the Sanford Pentagon.
SDSU enters Monday's matchup having won its last two contests. The Jackrabbits earned a 68-64 victory at Ball State on Tuesday, then returned home Friday and defeated Dakota Wesleyan 94-62. State earned a win over the Cardinals on Tuesday in the two programs' first-ever meeting, while SDSU beat the Tigers for the third straight season.
Dakota Wesleyan got out to a hot shooting start and held a 23-13 advantage nine minutes into the affair Friday. South Dakota State followed with a 21-1 scoring run and never relinquished control of the proceedings. SDSU had near season highs as a team in field goals made (35), field goal percentage (55.6%), rebounds (51) and assists (24).
Several Jackrabbits have been standouts of late. The team's leader off the bench has been a focal point for multiple games in
Damon Wilkinson. The sophomore center is in the midst of a torrid four-game stretch. That span features Wilkinson averaging 14.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He's also 24-for-37 (64.9%) from the field while playing just shy of 23 minutes per outing.
Junior
Kalen Garry has registered two straight season-high scoring efforts, most recently with 20 against DWU. The past week saw Garry shoot 11-for-21 (8 of 13 from 3-point range) averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and five assists.
Sophomore
Joe Sayler has scored double digits in three of his last four games. His last time out versus the Tigers saw him grab a season-high seven rebounds and dish a career-high seven assists.
SDSU is 1-5 all-time against Wyoming heading into Monday's contest. The Jackrabbits fell to the Cowboys, 78-65, in their last meeting in December of 2023 at the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas. State won the two sides' first meeting of its Division I era in 2009, a 77-61 final. The Cowboys have won the last three matchups dating back to 2016.

The Cowboys' lone losses are at Sam Houston (78-70) on Nov. 19 and at No. 20 Texas Tech (76-72) on Nov. 30. The Pokes lead the Mountain West Conference and rank 36th in the nation averaging 88 points per game. Wyoming has scored 90 or more points in three of the last four games. The Cowboys are coming off a 106-79 victory over South Dakota in Laramie this past Tuesday.
