The South Dakota State men's basketball team participates in the Milwaukee Hoops Showdown this Friday as part of a doubleheader in the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wis. The Jackrabbits face Milwaukee at 4 p.m. in the home of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks. The contest precedes a matchup in the facility between Villanova and Wisconsin.

Following two consecutive victories, SDSU dropped an 87-72 contest to Wyoming in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Monday. The Cowboys never trailed as they improved to 9-2 on the season and the Jackrabbits fell to 7-6. Wyoming holds a 6-1 all-time record in the series.

The Jackrabbits saw their first opponent this season shoot over 50% as Wyoming finished Monday's meeting 53.6% from the field. SDSU, despite being out-rebounded (38-21) and giving up a season-high 87 points, remain atop The Summit League and in the top 100 nationally in rebound margin (6.1) and scoring defense (67.5).

SDSU continues to rely on several standouts of late. Damon Wilkinson has an active five-game streak scoring in double digits. That span has saw the sophomore center average 14.0 points and 6.8 rebounds in just shy of 23 minutes per game.

Junior Kalen Garry has registered three straight season-high scoring efforts. In that stretch, Garry is averaging 16.7 points per game on 16-for-29 (55.2%) shooting to go along with clips of 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest.

An injury to Trey Buchanan that has ended his 2025-26 season has elevated the role of Bubz Alvarez off the bench. Across the last four SDSU contests, the redshirt sophomore is playing over 21 minutes per game. Alvarez has averaged 6.5 points and shot 12 of 25 (48%) from the floor.

SDSU is 1-5 all-time against Milwaukee. Their last meeting came in November of 2016 when the Jackrabbits defeated the Panthers in the Sanford Pentagon by an 81-58 score.

Milwaukee is 4-6 heading into Friday's game. The Panthers were the preseason favorite to win the Horizon League, but have lost two starters for the season due to injury in Seth Hubbard and John Lovelace Jr. Milwaukee most recently fell to Indiana State, 70-68, on Sunday.
