BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State opens the indoor track and field season at home with the SDSU Holiday Open on Friday afternoon.

HEAD COACH ROD DEHAVEN
"The opening day of the season is always exciting and it always great to open up at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. Our track and field athletes have been training hard for this meet and the coaching staff is looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor. It will exciting to see the first students open up their Jackrabbit careers. And then on Saturday we will have a few athletes at Boston University taking aim at our 5,000 meter school records. It will be a great weekend of track and field."

THE MEET
The SDSU Holiday Open kicks off the indoor track and field season at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The meet will begin on Friday, Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m. with the 5000-meter race, and is estimated to conclude around 8:00 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay. Several schools around the Dakotas will open their season in Brookings to better understand where their program stands heading into the season.

Additionally, three distance runners are headed east to participate in the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Standouts Cody Larson, Meghan Ford, and Eleni Lovgren will run in the 5000-meter race on Saturday, Dec. 6.

ATHLETES TO WATCH
Larson will be a Jackrabbit to keep an eye on as the senior claimed two gold medals at last year's Indoor Summit League Championship and broke a few indoor Jackrabbit program records. James Pierce will also be worth watching on the sprints side. Pierce claimed gold in the 400-meter dash before assisting SDSU's 4x400-meter relay team to a first-place finish at last season's indoor championship.

On the women's side, Lindsey Rotz will be the Jackrabbit to watch. Rotz made her collegiate championships debut in the 800-meter race, where she earned a silver medal behind North Dakota's Brooklyn Brouse. Chloe Raw will be a freshman to watch for as the South Dakota native enters the collegiate scene with the high school indoor 60-meter state record of South Dakota. Raw is also a two-time state champion in 2024 and earned the Scott Underwood MVP award in 2024 and 2025, and the Dan Lennon MVP award in 2025.
