South Dakota State hits the road for a one-game trip to Muncie, Ind., to take on Ball State. The Jackrabbits and Cardinals are slated for a 6 p.m. CT tipoff on Tuesday in Worthen Arena.Â
The Jackrabbits are coming off a tough defeat to Idaho, 84-81, inside First Bank & Trust Arena this past Saturday. SDSU led for over 22 minutes in the contest and was up 71-69 with 4:34 to play. The Vandals overtook the Jacks with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions just over a minute later. SDSU remained within a possession the entire final 1:20 of regulation, however a game-tying attempt from 3-point range by
Jaden Jackson was unsuccessful as the final buzzer sounded.
SDSU completed a split of its Big Sky-Summit Challenge matchups. The Jackrabbits defeated Northern Arizona 75-62 on Wednesday in Flagstaff. Four Jacks scored in double digits in that contest led by
Joe Sayler. He registered a season-high 20 points.Â
Saturday's game saw Jackson pace the Jackrabbit lineup. He played 38 minutes and was 8-for-13 from the floor with 21 points. The past week saw
Damon Wilkinson score 13 points and grab five rebounds against NAU, followed by 16 points and seven rebounds versus Idaho.Â
The 2026 edition of the conference series was the third between the two leagues officially. SDSU has now played a pair of BIg Sky opponents in seven straight seasons, excluding the 2020-21 campaign. The Jacks have split their matchups with their Big Sky foes in every season during that span.
Tuesday's meeting pitting South Dakota State and Ball State will be the first between the two programs. The Jackrabbits have had recent history against Mid-American Conference members. SDSU played Akron and Kent State in home-and-home series' against the two schools in 2022-23 and 2023-24. The Jacks are 7-8 against the MAC's current membership.
Ball State enters Tuesday's matchup with a 3-6 overall record. The Cardinals fell their last time out at Evansville, 64-52, on Wednesday. Ball State ranks among the top 100 programs in Division I in scoring defense (69.6) and turnovers forced per game (14.1).Â
