WACO, Texas — South Dakota State lost to Baylor, 14-3, in its third equestrian competition of the spring season Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center, moving to 2-7 on the year.

The Most Outstanding Performer award in reining was given to Lydia Loken in her narrow 71-70.5 victory over Baylor rider Isabella Hehr, while Sadie Peters beat Paxton Wilson, 70.5-67, to earn the Bears a point.

Three ties ended the reining event 1-1 with Jackrabbit riders Emilie Strahm (69.5), Adisyn Kuxhaus (68.5) and Emma Riggs (69) all scoring the same as their opponents.

The Jackrabbits were bested in the fences discipline by a 4-1 count against the Bears.

Juliana Gullo earned SDSU's sole point by beating Emma Covarrubias, 80-76, but Lauren Jorgenson of Baylor took the MOP award with an 88 by beating Brooke Borges, who had the Jackrabbits' highest score in the event with an 82.

Hannah Steele lost to Juliette Earley 82-80, with Sarah Gould (74) and Samantha Aisenberg (75) keeping it close to their opponent, but falling just short.

Jackrabbit Hannah Dutton scored in horsemanship by beating Gianna Pozzi 74.5-61.5. South Dakota State had two riders finish with a score of 72.5 in Paige Wellendorf and Grace Gerbus, but were unable to secure the win as Alexis Rutledge (74.5) and Anna Thron (74) came away with victories for the Bears.

Baylor's Taylor Smith earned the Most Outstanding Performer award in horsemanship in her 76-72 victory over Avery Bergan and Anna Minich fell to Nadalee Vasquez, 75.5-72.

In flat, the Bears reigned supreme, sweeping the Jacks in the discipline, 5-0. Lauren Stebbins beat Elizabeth Wagner 77-69, Madison Mitchell snagged the MOP award and the victory against SDSU's Sierra Elliott, 78-66, and Steele's ride of 71 wasn't enough to top Lauren Reid's 76.

On Cowboy, Earley beat Kendyl Rudolf, 70-66, and Grace O'Connell added a win for the Bears against Kayla Scherer, 73-67.

UP NEXT
The Jackrabbits will be home on March 7 and 8 with respective rematches against both Baylor and Minnesota Crookston at the DeHaan Equestrian Center at 8 a.m.
