South Dakota State welcomes an opponent sitting atop The Summit League standings for a second consecutive week into First Bank & Trust Arena on Thursday. The Jackrabbits are slated to face Omaha at 7 p.m. on Thursday.Â
The Jackrabbits are 16-9 overall and 7-3 in conference play. One of SDSU's defeats in Summit League action came against Omaha, which sits at 16-10 overall and 10-1 in league play. The Mavericks' lone conference loss was at South Dakota (91-87) on Jan. 29.Â
SDSU and Omaha previously squared off this year at the Mavericks' Baxter Arena on Jan. 11. The Jacks scored 11 of the game's first 13 points and held a 29-25 lead late in the first half. The Mavs scored 13 unanswered points to go into halftime, then extended the lead to as many as 17 en route to an 87-80 victory over South Dakota State.Â
The win for Omaha ended an SDSU 10-game winning streak in the series. The Jacks were paced by
Kalen Garry's career-high 27 points, while Omaha had a pair of 24-point scoring efforts from Marquel Sutton and JJ White.Â
South Dakota State has had a week break between games. The Jacks hosted St. Thomas last Thursday in Brookings. The Tommies, which entered the matchup in a tie for first in the conference standings, held a 42-41 lead at halftime over SDSU. The Jacks responded by shooting nearly 67% in the second half, and eclipsed 60 points in a half for the first time since 2018, on their way to a 102-86 victory.Â
Five Jackrabbits scored in double digits led by freshman
Owen Larson's first double-double effort behind career highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds. The contest also saw SDSU shoot a season-best 52.6% from 3-point range.Â
This past week saw SDSU's
Oscar Cluff named a top 10 candidate for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame 2025 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award. He joins previous Jackrabbits in Nate Wolters (2013) and Mike Daum (2018 & 2019) to make player of the year award watch lists.
Omaha is on a three-game win streak. The Mavs' 10 league wins are tied for their second most ever in conference play, trailing 13 they earned in 2019.Â
