WICHITA, Kan. — Amanda Vacanti made a strong appearance in the circle and
Emma Vike produced two RBIs for South Dakota State, however No 12/15 Oklahoma State did enough to overcome the Jackrabbits in a 3-2 game to open play at Wichita State's Shocker Invitational on Thursday.
Â
The two sides were scoreless after one inning of play as SDSU got out of the bottom of the frame courtesy of an outfield assist from
Akayla Barnard who started in center field.Â
Â
South Dakota State got on the board first in the top of the second.
Mia Jarecki walked to lead the inning off, then
Alli Boyle hit a single to put two Jacks on base.
Cece Hanson sacrifice bunted, getting her teammates both into scoring position. After a strikeout, Jackrabbit shortstop
Emma Vike hit a single up the middle. Her two RBIs gave the Jacks a 2-0 advantage.Â
Â
Oklahoma State responded in the bottom of the inning. A. Hasler hit a home run off to cut the deficit to 2-1.Â
Â
SDSU got a runner to third base in the fourth following Jarecki's one-out walk. She would be stranded there. The Cowgirls loaded the bases in the fourth behind two hits and a hit by pitch. Vacanti got a groundout to get out of the jam and keep the score at 2-1.Â
Â
The Cowgirls tied it at 2-2 in the fifth on an RBI double. The sixth inning saw Hasler hit another solo home run to propel Oklahoma State for the first time on the day.Â
Â
Trailing 3-2, SDSU got a leadoff walk to begin the seventh. Hanson advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt placing her in scoring position. She'd be stranded there following a strikeout and groundout to end the game.Â
Â
