South Dakota State makes its 2025 Summit League Championship debut late night Friday when the Jackrabbits take on North Dakota at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls. The third-seeded Jacks and sixth-seeded Fighting Hawks will tipoff approximately 25 minutes after the No. 4/No. 5 contest between North Dakota State and South Dakota which begins at 6 p.m.
The quarterfinal matchup between SDSU and UND will be the first between the two programs in The Summit League Tournament. The Jackrabbits are 28-9 all-time in The Summit League conference tournament. SDSU is the reigning tournament champion and has won the title previously seven times in 2024, 2022, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013 and 2012.Â
SDSU and North Dakota split their set of regular season meetings. The Jackrabbits produced one of their best games offensively in their Division I era in the Jan. 16 game in Brookings. The Jacks shot 71.4% in the first half, with 25 points courtesy ofÂ
Joe Sayler in the opening 20 minutes, en route to a 109-73 victory. The point total was the second most against a DI foe ever, while SDSU had its third most field goals made against a DI opponent (42) and had its fourth-best shooting clip (65.6%).Â
Fortunes reversed in the rematch in Grand Forks on Feb. 1. North Dakota shot nearly 70% from the field in the first half and led by as many as 19. The Fighting Hawks held off a late Jackrabbit comeback bid to earn an 80-75 victory. The win ended an 18-game skid for UND against SDSU that had spanned since 2011. Sayler again led the Jacks scoring with 20 points while
Oscar Cluff had 10 points and 19 rebounds.
The Jacks went 20-11 overall and 11-5 in Summit League play during the regular season. SDSU was paced by First Team All-Summit League performer and Newcomer of the Year

North Dakota was 11-20 overall and 5-11 in Summit League action. The Fighting Hawks had multiple award winners from the conference. Treysen Eaglestaff was a Second Team All-League selection. Mier Panoam was an honorable mention while Eli King was named All-Defensive Team.
