SIOUX FALLS — For the second week in a row, South Dakota State has the Kwik Star Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week. Freshman right-hander Caleb Duerr was selected for the honor Monday after helping the Jackrabbits post their first shutout victory of the season.
A native of West Fargo, North Dakota, Duerr pitched the first 6 2/3 innings of the Jackrabbits' 3-0 victory at St. Thomas on April 18. He scattered six hits, struck out three, walked one and hit a batter en route to his third win of the season. Duerr's outing is the longest by any SDSU pitcher this season.
Last week's honoree, Dylan Driessen, closed out the Jackrabbits' shutout performance with 2 1/3 scoreless frames.
SDSU faces a busy week of action on the diamond with six games over a six-day span. The Jackrabbits host Northwestern (Iowa) at 3 p.m. Tuesday before meeting Creighton at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux Falls. The week concludes with a four-game league series against North Dakota State Friday through Sunday at Erv Huether Field.
