South Dakota State pitcher Dylan Driessen was selected Monday by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft.
A right-hander from Omaha, Nebraska, Driessen made 61 appearances — all in relief — for the Jackrabbits over three seasons from 2023-25, compiling a 10-11 record with seven saves. He ranks third on the Jackrabbit career charts with an average of 12.93 strikeouts per nine innings after racking up 148 K's in 103 innings pitched.
The team's primary closer in 2025, Driessen posted six saves and struck out 50 batters in 35 innings.
Driessen, who was the 540th overall selection, is the 16th Jackrabbit to be picked in the MLB Draft and the first since left-handed pitcher Brady Stover was taken in the 31st round by the Washington Nationals in 2019.
