DES MOINES, Iowa — South Dakota State graduate student
Lauren Walter picked a fitting time to tally the first goal of her Jackrabbit career as SDSU defeated Drake, 1-0, at Mediacom Stadium on Wednesday in a non-conference women's soccer match.Â
Â
The two sides were scoreless through 69 minutes as the Jackrabbits held possession on the Drake side of the pitch.Â
Â
Sophomore
Mia Bosch crossed a pass from the right side of the field to in front of the net. Drake goalkeeper Addie Ford was unable to corral the ball on the near post and SDSU freshman
MaKynlie Cade stepped in to gain control. She dished a pass to Walter who struck a shot that glanced off a Bulldog defender, but eventually rolled over the goal line to give the Jackrabbits the 1-0 edge.Â
Â
Both teams recorded two shots apiece over the final 20 minutes of action. Drake had a corner kick opportunity in the 82nd minute. A header off the set piece was kept away by Jackrabbit midfielder
Ellie Gusman, keeping the SDSU clean sheet intact.Â
Â
Neither squad produced another shot from that point on.Â
Â
South Dakota State extended a six-match unbeaten streak while improving to 4-1-3 overall. Drake fell to 3-3-2.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits outshot the Bulldogs by a 19-11 edge. SDSU also had 10 corner kicks to Drake's three.Â
