BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State women's soccer wrapped up its non-conference schedule in commanding fashion Thursday night, earning a 2-0 victory over Wyoming at Fishback Soccer Park.
The Jackrabbits (6-1-3) struck in both halves to secure the win.
It took SDSUÂ 40 minutes to get its first shot on goal as Wyoming tallied four shots on goal in that same span. Jackrabbit goalkeeper
Mallorie Benhart snagged all four attempts to keep the Cowgirls off the board.Â
Lauren Eckerle got State's first shot on goal from long range in the 40th minute. Just 20 seconds later, SDSU found the back of the net.Â
Jenna Maloy gained possession of the ball, stealing it away from a Wyoming player, on the Cowgirl side of the pitch. Maloy dished a pass to
Deizha Lyn Jacinto who entered the top of the box. A well placed pass by Jacinto back to Maloy set her up for a right-footed boot that gave the Jacks a 1-0 edge.Â
The Jackrabbits took that score into halftime. SDSU added insurance early in the second half when a Wyoming own goal in the 49th minute doubled the lead.Â
From there, SDSU's defense held strong against a persistent Wyoming attack. The Cowgirls had a 23-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, but failed to find the back of the net.Â
South Dakota State extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches heading into Summit League play. Wyoming dropped to 5-2-1.Â
