BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State volleyball team has added Anna Johannson to its roster, beginning with the 2026 spring semester. Johannson joins the Jackrabbits as a defensive specialist with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Johannson transfers to SDSU after one season at New Mexico, where she appeared in 19 matches this fall as the team went 13-16 on the season. Her season high in digs with the Lobos was seven in a match against Wyoming.
Johannson is a 2025 graduate of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where she played her junior and senior seasons. In club volleyball, Johannson was named an AAU All-American in 2023.
Johannson is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she attended Benilde St. Margaret's High School. As a sophomore in 2022, she helped her team to a runner-up finish at the state tournament. The defensive specialist achieved high honors academically from 2022-2025.
Johannson is the daughter of John and Margarita. Her father played hockey at Wisconsin, going on to play professionally in Austria and for the New Jersey Devils in NHL. Her uncle, Jim Johannson, played hockey for Wisconsin, was a two-time Olympian for hockey, and was the general manager of the U.S. men's national team and the U.S. junior national team.
