MINNEAPOLIS — Gigi Hioki and Jenna Currier each recorded two top-five finishes in swimming events for South Dakota State during tri-dual competition Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
The Jackrabbits went 0-2 on the day as they dropped a 142-97 decision to St. Thomas and fell 198-43 to Minnesota. The host Golden Gophers won all 13 events contested, completing a sweep with a 196.5-46.5 victory against St. Thomas.
Hioki was the top individual finisher for SDSU with a runner-up showing in the 200-yard freestyle. She clocked a time of 1:52.85 in that event and added a fifth-place time of 52.94 seconds in the 100 freestyle later in the meet.
Currier continued her strong senior season with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle (:24.18) and by placing fourth in the 100 butterfly (:57.69).
Adding fifth-place efforts for the Jackrabbits were freshman Marissa Renaud in the 1,000 freestyle (11:02.01) and Lily Esmas in the 100 backstroke (:59.94).
