BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State posts seven podium finishes during day one of the SDSU Classic Friday evening.
The highlight of the evening came from the Jackrabbit men sweeping the weight throw podium. Caiden Fredrick won the event with a mark of 67-00.50 (20.43m), Ethan Fischer finished runner-up with a throw of 61-03.00 (18.67m) and Ryan Hackbart took bronze with a mark of 60-01.00 (18.31m).
On the track, Cody Larson won the 3000-meter race with a time of 8:03.84, less than a second off from his program record of 8:03.10. Will Lohr and Dale Johnson competed as well, finishing fourth and 10th, respectively. Lohr clocked a time of 8:14.25, while Johnson finished at 8:25.12.
On the women's side, Emma Gonzalez won the 3000-meter with a personal record time of 9:49.29. Nora Peterson competed as well, crossing the line at 10:03.74 to place seventh.
Jaden Peters had a solid night in the pole vault competition, tying for second place after clearing 15-11.00 (4.85m).
In women's weight throw, Josie Curry and Jalyn Shepherd finished third and fourth, respectively. Curry threw 58-07.25 (17.86m), while Shepherd posted a mark of 57-09.75 (17.62m).
Addy Engel made the podium in the shot put competition with a mark of 43-05.25 (13.24m). On the men's side, Caymen Gebheim took fourth with a throw of 52-07.25 (16.03m).
Lindsey Rotz, Eleni Lovgren and Hannah Spoden finished fourth through sixth in the 800-meter race. Rotz clocked a time of 2:11.42 to take fourth, Lovgren finished at 2:12.49 for fifth, and Spoden crossed the line at 2:12.56 to place sixth. On the men's side, Joe Dustin placed in the top five with a time of 1:52.74.
The SDSU Classic will continue Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the mile race, followed by field events at noon.
