South Dakota State begins its final home stand of the regular season on Wednesday when the Jackrabbits take on North Dakota State at 7 p.m. inside First Bank & Trust Arena. The Jackrabbits and Bison meet for the second time this year.
The first meeting on Jan. 14 in Fargo saw the Jackrabbits dig out of an early 15-6 hole. SDSU used an 11-0 scoring stretch to take a 17-15 lead midway through the first half. The Bison responded with a 13-0 scoring run and didn't look back from there. SDSU had the deficit down to 63-58 with five minutes remaining, but consecutive 3-pointers by NDSU put the game out of reach as the Bison closed out a 76-65 victory.
The longstanding series between SDSU and NDSU has the Bison holding a 126-113 all-time advantage. NDSU visits First Bank & Trust Arena having won its last two showings in Brookings. SDSU hasn't lost three straight to the Bison on its home floor since 2010.Â
NDSU has also won two straight contests against SDSU. The Bison look to earn a third straight victory against the Jackrabbits for the first time since 2015. SDSU was the last team in the series to have a three-game win streak in the series which ended in 2023.
South Dakota State stands at 12-15 overall and 5-7 in Summit League play. The Jackrabbits have been paced in conference competition by their starting lineup. Leading the Jacks in scoring through 12 games are
Joe Sayler (17.7),
Damon Wilkinson (15.1),
Jaden Jackson (12.4) and
Kalen Garry (11.3). In the Jackrabbits' last win at ORU on Saturday, all four scored in double digits along with
Alec Squires.
North Dakota State enters Wednesday's matchup at 21-6 overall and 11-1 in league play. The Bison have been solid on the road and are tied for third in the nation in total victories with their 9-4 record in away contests.
The Bison are carried by balanced scoring led by Damari Wheeler-Thomas (13.6), Markhi Strickland (13.4), Trevian Carson (12.9) and Treyson Anderson (10.4). NDSU in conference play leads the league in scoring defense (72.0) and rebound margin (5.3).Â
