RELAYS KICK OFF SUMMIT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

IOWA CITY, Iowa — South Dakota State recorded fourth-place finishes in both the men's and women's 800-yard freestyle relays Wednesday to open competition at the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships.
The women's quartet of Mira Celtikci, Hannah Miller, Aubrey Douds and Gigi Hioki combined for a time of 7 minutes, 36.03 seconds. Denver cruised to victory in the event with a time of 7:17.72.
SDSU's men's squad of Zavier Kranz, Jack Ellison, Kolden Kringen and Landon Schemel turned in a time of 6:38.98 and was edged out of a spot on the podium by .18 seconds by third-place Omaha. Denver was victorious in 6:31.84.
In the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay, SDSU placed fifth in the women's division and sixth on the men's side. The women's foursome of Lucia Lopez, Jessalyn Carpenter, Jenna Currier and Sara Juez posted a time of 1:43.49. Zack Heiar, David Bosch, Braxton McGrath and Colby Williams made up the Jackrabbit men's 200 medley relay team and combined for a time of 1:29.28.
The Summit League Championships get into full swing Thursday with preliminary rounds starting at 10 a.m. with event finals at 5 p.m. at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
