Game Notes |
South Dakota State continues its stay in the Lone Star State this week competing against two opponents in midweek games. The Jackrabbits take on Baylor at the Bears' Getterman Stadium at 5 p.m. Tuesday, then head to Abilene Christian to face the Wildcats on Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. SDSU eventually closes its stay in Texas by participating in Tarleton State's Whataburger Invitational starting on Friday.
SDSU is 1-1 all-time against Baylor. The Jackrabbits played at doubleheader in Waco against the Bears in 2023. The Jacks lost a game 3-0 to Baylor, but also beat the then No. 20-ranked Bears 5-2. It was SDSU's first ever victory against a ranked opponent at the time. Two current Jackrabbits played in that doubleheader in
Alli Boyle and
Alivya Bollen, while graduate assistant coaches
Tori Kniesche and
Rozelyn Carrillo were standouts in the ranked win.Â
The Jackrabbits have previously played Abilene Christian once. The two sides also met in that same 2023 season. SDSU defeated the Wildcats, 10-9, that February in a tournament hosted by Texas State.
The Jacks are coming off a five-game appearance at the East Texas A&M Leadoff in Commerce. The Jackrabbits went 4-1 with victories over Texas Southern (4-1), Bucknell (7-3), East Texas A&M (9-2) and Stephen F. Austin (4-3). SDSU's lone defeat came by a 7-6 score to SFA in a game in which the Jacks led 6-1 in the sixth inning.
Multiple pitchers stood out in the circle for SDSU.
Madi Mangulis earned a 2-0 record, including a save, to go along with a 1.43 ERA in 15 innings pitched.
Akayla Barnard,
Hailey Herman and
Amanda Vacanti all made starts as well. Both Herman and Vacanti picked up wins for SDSU, while Barnard holds a team-best 1.40 ERA.
South Dakota State is hitting .331 as a team following the opening five games of the season. Six Jackrabbits are hitting at least .333 with at least 10 at bats in Bollen (.500), Barnard (.444), Boyle (.400),
Emma Christensen (.389),
Ella Berlage (.333) and
Bria Riebel (.333).Â
