BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State produced 16 hits and recorded 14 runs as the Jackrabbits came away with a run-rule 14-6 victory over North Dakota on Saturday, March 28, at Jerald T. Moriarty Field.Â

The Jackrabbit softball team got out to a 5-0 start in the first inning.
Amanda Vacanti and
Akayla Barnard each hit RBI doubles,
Emma Christensen plated two runs on an RBI triple, while she scored on an RBI ground out via
Ella Berlage.Â

The Fighting Hawks responded with a four-run top of the second, however the Jacks matched them with four runs in the bottom of the frame. SDSU got it led off with a solo home run via
Bria Riebel. A pair of RBI singles off the bats of Berlage and
Mia Buske made it 8-4, then a
Quinn Marnocha sacrifice fly pushed the score to 9-4.Â

UND and SDSU again matched runs in the third. The Jackrabbits got an RBI double from
Abby Gentry and sacrifice fly by Christensen as the score was 11-6 heading to the fourth.Â

Madi Mangulis made way for
Tayler Baker. The Jackrabbit reliever would pitch two scoreless innings as it paved the way for an eventual five-inning victory.Â

Riebel hit an RBI single in the fourth as the Jacks held a 12-6 edge in the bottom of the fifth. Gentry led the inning off with a double. She'd score on a one-out RBI double by Berlage. She'd be pinch run for as
Cece Hanson took over on second base. With two outs, Hanson scored on an RBI single off the bat of Marnocha as SDSU closed out the 14-6 win over the Fighting Hawks.Â

NOTES
- South Dakota State improved to 18-20 overall and 3-1 in Summit League play. North Dakota fell to 22-12 overall and lost in its conference-opening game of the season.
- SDSU had eight different players record hits. Riebel and Gentry led the Jackrabbits with three hits apiece. Vacanti, Barnard, Berlage and Marnocha also had multi-hit performances. Christensen and Berlage had a team-high three RBIs each.Â
- Madi Mangulis was credited with the win as she pitched the first three innings on Saturday. She improved to 6-4 on the season. Baker threw two shutout innings in relief. She allowed just one hit in her appearance.Â
- The Jackrabbits have now won 16 straight games against the Fighting Hawks.
