South Dakota State heads to Sioux Falls to participate in the 2026 Summit League Basketball Championship. The Jackrabbits are the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will face second-seed St. Thomas at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.Â
SDSU is 28-10 all-time in The Summit League tournament. The Jackrabbits have won the tournament seven times, the most among the conference's current members.Â
South Dakota State is 13-4 all-time in its opening game of the Summit League Championship. A season ago, the Jackrabbits fell in the quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed to No. 6 seed North Dakota, 85-69. The year prior saw the Jacks win the 2024 tournament crown to go along with titles won in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022.Â
The 2026 edition of the tournament features SDSU as the seventh seed in the nine-team field. It is the first time the Jackrabbits have been the No. 7 seed since their first appearance in The Summit League Championship in 2009. That year saw the Jackrabbits defeat No. 2 Oral Roberts in overtime (72-69) before falling in the semifinals to Oakland.
South Dakota State finished the regular season with a 14-17 overall record and went 7-9 in conference play. Leading the way in league competition were
Joe Sayler and
Damon Wilkinson. The two were SDSU's leading scorers across the 16-game league slate. Both were recognized as honorable mentions to the All-Summit League team on Tuesday.Â
The Jackrabbits face the Tommies for the second time in tournament play. The two sides faced off in the 2024 semifinals. A defensive battle saw SDSU finish with a 43-33% shooting edge en route to a 59-49 victory.Â
St. Thomas closed out its 2025-26 schedule with a 23-8 record and 12-4 mark in league play. The Tommies beat the Jackrabbits in both regular season matchups, earning a 74-69 win in St. Paul and 77-62 victory in Brookings. First Team All-Summit League performers Nick Janowski and Nolan Minessale led UST by averaging 22 and 20 points per game, respectively, versus SDSU.
