Danny Higginbotham is in his second season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Jackrabbit baseball team. He works primarily with the catchers and hitters, and also assists with the coordination of camps.
Prior to SDSU, he spent the 2017 season as an assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. At Iowa Central, he worked with the catchers and hitters on a daily basis. During that season at ICCC, the Tritons went 38-16 and won the Region 11 championship.
Before joining the Iowa Central staff, Higginbotham spent two years at Arkansas Tech University as a graduate assistant coaching and recruiting coordinator.
Higginbotham spent this past summer as head coach of the Macon (Ga.) Bacon, marking the fifth year in a row he coached in the Coastal Plain League. Macon finished second in the South Division and qualified for the divisional round of the playoffs. Before Macon, he spent the 2017 and 2016 summer at the helm of the Martinsville (Va.) Mustangs. He started out in 2015 as the pitching coach for the Morehead City (N.C.) Marlins.
During his playing career, Higginbotham caught at Arkansas Tech University from 2009-2011 where he earned Gulf South Conference academic honors in each of his three seasons. The Wonder Boys compiled a record of 88-65 over his three seasons and earned bids to the Gulf South Conference Tournament in 2010 and 2011.
Higginbotham started his college playing career at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, in 2008. He also spent part of the summer of 2010 playing in Antwerp, Belgium, for Team Nada SSM from Croatia in the European Baseball Championship.
Originally from Bedford, Texas, Higginbotham graduated in 2011 from Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He added a master’s degree in college student personnel from ATU in 2016.
