Macy Stanage (formerly Macy Miller) returned to Brookings for her second stint on AJ's staff and first as an assistant coach ahead of the 2024-25 season. She enters her fourth overall season on staff at South Dakota State in 2026-27. She is responsible for developing SDSU’s perimeter players, teaching team offense and defense and assisting with recruiting.
With Stanage a member of the program as either a player or staff member, SDSU has a 185-50 (.787) overall record.
The Jackrabbits went 27-7 overall in 2025-26 and went back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year. Stanage helped SDSU to a runner-up finish with a 14-2 mark in the Summit League regular season, then avenged earlier season losses to both South Dakota and North Dakota State to win fourth straight Summit League tournament crown.
The 2025-26 season saw the career end of Jackrabbit all-time great Brooklyn Meyer, who earned three All-America nods (WBCA, Associated Press, USBWA) as a senior and was named the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year. The forward was also a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year award and was named Summit League Tournament MVP. Meyer ended her career with 2,097 career points (third in program history behind Macy Miller and Myah Selland), a .609 field goal percentage (first in history), 850 career rebounds (fifth in history) and 174 career blocks (second in history). Joining Meyer on the Summit League First Team was fellow senior Madison Mathiowetz, while Emilee Fox was deemed honorable mention and Hadley Thul landed on the Summit League’s all-freshman team. Meyer was also named to the Summit League all-defensive team.
In 2024-25, South Dakota State won its fifth straight regular season Summit League title and three-peated as the conference’s postseason champion. The Jackrabbits finished the year 30-4, reaching 30 wins for the second time in the Division I era and third time overall. SDSU knocked off three ranked teams - No. 21 Creighton, No. 21 Oregon and No. 17 Oklahoma State. The Jacks’ win over the seventh-seeded OSU Cowgirls came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 74-68, to put SDSU in the second round for the second time in three years.
Brooklyn Meyer was deemed honorable mention All-America, was a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award and landed on the All-Summit League first team in 2024-25. Paige Meyer was also conference first-team selection while Haleigh Timmer earned an honorable mention nod. Katie Vasecka was named to the Summit League all-freshman team. Brooklyn Meyer, Paige Meyer and Mesa Byom were three of five players named to the Summit League’s all-defensive team.
Stanage, a Mitchell, South Dakota native, previously spent three seasons at NAIA Northwestern as an assistant coach under Kristin Rotert (SDSU 2011), where she helped the Red Raiders go 62-32 and make three trips to the NAIA National Tournament.
As a graduate assistant with the Jackrabbits for the 2020-21 season, Stanage helped SDSU return to the top of the Summit League and capture its sixth regular season title. State posted a 14-0 conference record, going undefeated in Summit League action for the first time in program history. The squad topped three nationally ranked opponents throughout the season, defeating No. 15 Iowa State, No. 18 Gonzaga and No. 20 Missouri State.
The Jacks earned its 10th NCAA Tournament berth with the program's first ever at-large bid. SDSU finished the season with a 21-4 record, falling to No. 8-seeded Syracuse in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. State spent nine weeks ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll and eight weeks in the USA TODAY/Coaches Poll during the 2020-21 season. The Jacks ranked as high as 21st in the Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the AP Poll.
Stanage played basketball professionally for one season in Spain for Baxi Ferrol. She started all 21 games, averaging 11.7 points per game and dishing a team best 3.6 assists per game. Additionally, Stanage averaged 4.4 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
Prior to her time playing overseas, Stanage was the second Jackrabbit women's basketball player to be selected in the WNBA draft. She was a third round pick by the Seattle Storm.
Stanage was honored as the Summit League Player of the Year during both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Her 2,355 career points are both SDSU and Summit League records. The three-time All-Summit League First Team selection also graduated as State's all-time field goal (843) and free throw leader (501). As Macy Miller, Stanage started all 144 contests that she appeared in for the Jackrabbits. Throughout her career she tallied 428 assists, 168 steals and 755 rebounds. As a senior, she scored in double figures in 31 of the Jackrabbits' 35 games as they reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Stanage graduated from South Dakota State with a degree in exercise science. She and her husband, Steven Stanage, reside in Brookings with their daughter, Sophia.
