Late goal secures Jackrabbit victory

DEKALB, Ill. ? Kerstyn Farrell broke a 2-2 tie in the 79th minute to give South Dakota State a 3-2 victory over Northern Illinois Sunday at the Huskie Soccer Complex.
Kelsey Worcester, a junior from Anamosa, Iowa, put the Jacks on the board netting an unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Worcester gave SDSU a 2-0 advantage 10 minutes later, scoring off an assist from Kellyn Farrell.
Kim Schmitt pulled the Huskies within one, scoring from 15 yards out to end the first half. After NIU's Karen Enockson tied the game at 2-2, Farrell secured the Jackrabbit victory with a goal from 25 yards out.
NIU held an 14-6 shot advantage for the match, including a 7-2 advantage in the second half. South Dakota State senior goalkeeper Jenn Davis recorded six saves on the day, while Lindsey Curnock made one save for the Huskies.
With the win, SDSU moved to 2-0-0 on the year, while Northern Illinois dropped to 1-1-0 on the season.
The Jacks will take on Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., Wednesday. Start time for the match against the Bluejays is set for 6 p.m.
