BROOKINGS, S.D. ? Senior Karoline Brause netted a goal off a corner kick in the 89th minute, but South Dakota State dropped a 3-1 decision to Drake University Friday night at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings.
Drake took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute of the match as Sarah Foote scored off an assist from Blair Nelson. Katie Sauer gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage right before the half off an assist from Melissa Nelson.
Julie Hickman pushed the Drake lead to 3-0 in the 48th minute. Junior Kelsey Worcester looked to put South Dakota State on the board in the 63rd minute, but saw her header sail wide of the goal. Brause, a senior from Fergus Falls, Minn., scored the lone goal for the Jacks' in the 89th minute. The goal was Brause's first career goal as a Jackrabbit.
SDSU had several scoring opportunities after the half as they out-shot the Bulldogs 11-4. For the match, Drake outshot South Dakota State 15-14.
The Jacks were led on offense by Worcester who recorded four shots in the match, including three in the second half.
Nicole Lograsso made five stops on the day, while Jenny Schroeder recorded five for the Bulldogs.
SDSU moved to 3-3-1 on the year, while Drake improved to 3-3-1 on the season.
SDSU will travel to Wisconsin next weekend to face Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Start time for the match against the Phoenix is set for Sept. 22 at 7 p. m.The Jacks will follow that up with a match Sept. 24 against UWM at noon.
