GREEN BAY, Wis.-- South Dakota State played Wisconsin-Green Bay even for one half Friday night, but Jennie Gorwitz scored in the 85th minute of the contest to give UW-Green Bay a 1-0 victory over South Dakota State University at Santaga Stadium in Green Bay, Wis.
Gorwitz scored UW-Green Bay's lone goal of the night off an assist from Stephanie Gross.
SDSU goalkeeper Jenn Davis, a junior from Kansas City, Mo., made five saves during the match, including three in the first half to hold the Phoenix off the scoreboard.
The Jackrabbits were out-shot 11-7 by the Phoenix for the match, but recorded the same number of shot attempts as UW-Green Bay in the first half with five.
The Jacks were led on offense by Kelsey Worcester who shot four times in the match and junior Erin Sakata who chipped in with two shot attempts.
UW-Green Bay goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren stopped two shots on the night.
With the loss, SDSU moved to 3-4-1 on the year, while Wisconsin-Green Bay improved to 4-2-1.
The Jackrabbits will take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a noon match Sunday at Engelmann Field.
