MACOMB, Ill. ? The South Dakota State women's soccer team was shutout 1-0 by the Western Illinois Westerwinds in a Summit League match Thursday night at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
With the defeat the Jackrabbits suffered their first conference loss of the season. Their season record dropped to 4-4-3 and their conference record is now 3-1-1. Western Illinois is now 10-1-1 on the season. The Westerwinds are a perfect 4-0-0 in Summit League play.
The only goal of the match was scored on a header by Katelyn Wisner 27 minutes into the second half. Robyn Ruypers picked up an assist on the goal.
Nicole Lograsso was in goal for the Jackrabbits. She had five saves and allowed one goal.
Megan Tyk was the goalkeeper for Western Illinois. She played the whole match and had two saves to shutout the Jackrabbits.
Western Illinois out-shot SDSU 12-7. Both teams had five shots after the first period, but the Westerwinds out-shot the Jacks 7-2 in the second half. Western Illinois had six shots on goal and SDSU had three.
Ashley Hoch and Bess Rapp led Western Illinois with three shots and two shots on goal each. Kellyn Farrell led the Jackrabbits with three shots and two shots on goal. Jessica Heine had SDSU's other shot on goal.
SDSU will be in action again on Sunday when the Jackrabbits host the Utah Valley State Wolverines at Fishback Soccer Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
