KANSAS CITY, Mo.--The South Dakota State University women's tennis team won four of the six singles matches and all three doubles matches Friday afternoon to pick up a 5-2 victory over UMKC at the Plaza Tennis Center.
The Jackrabbits opened the match winning all three doubles contests, then used victories at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles slots to defeat the Kangaroos.
Kristine Hagedorn put the Jacks on the board in singles competition blanking Caitlin Burke in two-sets by a 6-3, 6-3 score. Jennifer Sondreal followed with a three-set 6-1, 1-6, 10-8 victory over Holland Davis at No. 3 singles. After Amy Albrecht upended Suzanne Bott, 6-1, 6-4, freshman Carrie Jansen closed out singles play by downing Elaine Suba, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, Sondreal teamed with Hagedorn to defeat Akshara Reddy and Burke, 9-7. After Caitlin Brannen and Kate Wylie upended Nicole Kofron and Bott, 8-1, Jansen and Rachel Schmeiding won the final doubles match over Suba and Davis, 8-6, to give the Jacks a sweep in doubles competition.
South Dakota State, who moved to 3-5 overall with the win, will next be in action tomorrow when it takes on Saint Louis in Kansas City. Start time for the match is set for 1:30 p.m.
