TULSA, Okla. – The South Dakota State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Western Illinois in the first conference match of the season.
"We had our chance on a few courts,: head coach
Joey J. Barnes said. "We got a little tight and started to struggle. We are learning a lot about who we are as individuals and what it takes to overcome negative emotions."
Emilly Van Dijk and
Maria Laura Velazco won their No. 3 doubles match 6-3, but it wasn't enough at the Fighting Leathernecks won at No. 1 and No. 2
Morgan Brower won the lone point for the Jacks with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 decision at No. 4.
