Soccer continues spring season

BROOKINGS, S.D. ? Kellie Van Gerpen scored a goal and assisted on another this past weekend as South Dakota State posted victories over Southwest Minnesota State and South Dakota at Fishback Soccer Park.
Van Gerpen, a forward from Brookings, secured the Jackrabbits 2-0 victory over SMSU, netting a goal off an assist from Kellyn Farrell. Also scoring for the Jackrabbits was Liz Lane.
"It was a solid game for us considering we have not played any competition for about a month now," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer, who guided the Jackrabbits to their first conference championship this past fall.
On Sunday, the Jacks upended USD, 1-0, in sloppy conditions at Fishback Soccer Park. Scoring for the Jackrabbits was Vanessa Paswaters off a cross from Van Gerpen.
SDSU, 2-1-1 this spring, will next be in action April 29 when it takes on Big 10 member Northwestern in Minneapolis. Start time is set for 1 p.m. The Jacks will follow with a 4 p.m. contest against Wisconsin-Green Bay in Minneapolis.
