MINNEAPOLIS -- Fifth-ranked Minnesota recorded two pins, a technical fall and two more victories by major decision to down South Dakota State 34-9 in a college wrestling dual Sunday afternoon at the Sports Pavilion.
With the win, the defending national champion Golden Gophers improved to 9-3 in duals this season. SDSU dropped to 0-5.
Minnesota led wire-to-wire, opening the dual with Jeremy Larson winning by fall at 174 pounds over the Jackrabbits' Justin Retallic in 1 minute and 39 seconds. SDSU won two of the next four matches to pull to within 17-6 at the intermission. Sophomore 184-pounder Tyler Sorenson earned an 8-6 decision over Brandon Sitch to improve to 3-1 in duals this season, and 125-pounder Alan Marvin won his second consecutive match with an 8-5 victory over Dan Jackson.
Adam Everson got back on the winning track for the Jackrabbits with a 7-0 shutout of Jake Mellmer in the 141-pound division. With the win, Everson improved to a team-best 19-9 on the season.
Seventh-ranked C.P. Schlatter notched the other pin for Minnesota, winning by fall in 43 seconds over Nick Genereux at 149 pounds.
SDSU resumes dual action Wednesday at North Dakota State. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo.
