MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ? South Dakota State sophomore Nellie Bloomberg and freshman Megan McDougal both picked up wins for the Jackrabbits on Saturday at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
A Pierre native, Bloomberg defeated Iowa State's Chelsea Loprinzi 6-2, 6-0, while Piedmont native McDougal defeated Mary Roop from Gustavus Adolphus in a tiebreaker 6-3, 7-3 (3) for her first win as a Jackrabbit.
Freshman Bethany Goeden picked up her first collegiate win on Friday, but fell to Marianne Barau from Gustavus Adolphus 6-4, 6-0 on Saturday.
Minneapolis native, and SDSU freshman Katie Elifson came up just short in her bid for a first collegiate win, falling to Talia Jang-Stewart of Northern Iowa 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Amy Sanborn also fell in straight sets on Saturday, losing to Nebraska's Kirby Bridges 6-0, 6-0.
The Elifson/Goeden doubles team fell twice on Saturday to teams from Gustavus Adolphus and Nebraska, while Jansen and Bloomberg dropped their only doubles match to a team from Gustavus Adolphus.
Both the Elifson/Goeden and Jansen Bloomberg doubles squads play on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Singles matches for Sunday have not been announced.
