The South Dakota State wrestling team jumped out to an early 11-3 lead but dropped the next six matches as Northern Colorado went on the win 29-15 Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena.
Tyler Sorenson put the Jacks on the board in the second match with an 18-2 win by technical fall at 6:44. The No. 16 rated wrestler in the nation and reigning Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week improves to 7-0 in duals at 197 pounds.
Senior heavyweight
Jason Stripling improves to 25-9 overall and 13-1 in duals with a pin of Justin Tuell at 2:45. Stripling now holds the lone spot as the 23rd winningest wrestler at SDSU with a career record of 76-39-0.
At 174 pounds,
Scott Elliott notched the only other SDSU win on the afternoon with a 10-2 major decision over Brandon Kammerzell. Elliott improves to 16-6 overall and 9-2 in duals.
The loss drops the Jacks to 7-6-1 overall while Northern Colorado picks up their second WWC win in as many days, improving to 4-9-1.
SDSU will head west to take on conference opponents Wyoming, Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Air Force, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. MT.
