The South Dakota State women's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2009 Summit League Women's Soccer Championship and will clinch at least a share of the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with a win over North Dakota State on Saturday. Currently, the Bison are the only other team that has clinched a spot in the Summit League tournament.
"It is very satisfying to see the team rise to challenge of qualifying for the Summit League Tournament," said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. "The league has been very competitive this year and every game has been hard-fought. We are excited to be hosting (the conference tournament) and look forward to providing a quality experience for all the teams involved."
This season marks the second in as many years the Jackrabbits have qualified for The Summit League Tournament since becoming eligible. SDSU is 18-4-2 all-time in Summit regular season games under head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
Senior Day: Saturday's match against NDSU will be senior day for two Jackrabbits. Jess Heine from Sioux Falls and Danni Pappas, a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, will be honored before the game.
"Jess Heine and Dani Pappas have been wonderful members of the Jacks soccer team in their time here at SDSU," said Wedemeyer. "Jess is the consumate student athlete who has continually risen to the challenges before her to do what ever it takes to make the team better. Dani is the epitome of a team player who has worked hard behind the scenes to be a positive life force for our team. Both have been great representatives of SDSU athletics."
