LINCOLN, Neb. ? Casey Hauptman allowed one run over six innings and Adam Bailey drove in four runs, including three on a home run in a five-run eighth inning, leading Nebraska to an 11-2 victory over South Dakota State in baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Field.
The Cornhuskers took an early 2-0 lead, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and adding a run in the second on an RBI single by Khiry Cooper.
SDSU got on the board in the top of the third. Eric Cain singled with one out and Billy Stitz delivered a two-out triple to drive in Cain.
Bailey's three-run homer, his fifth of the season, came against SDSU reliever Matt Spinar as
Hauptman, a sophomore right-hander, limited the Jackrabbits to four hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one as he improved to 2-0 on the season.
Thielbar took the loss the Jackrabbits, falling to 0-3 on the season. The senior left-hander gave up four runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, recording four strikeouts with a walk. Kirby Morsching added four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Bubak led
For SDSU, Stitz had two of the Jackrabbits' six hits. Joel Blake doubled in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games to start the season.
