BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team split their dual defeating Western Illinois 243-44 and losing to North Dakota 151-148 Friday night at the HPER Center Pool.
Senior Ashley Valdez broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a winning time of 57.63 seconds. Valdez also swam the leadoff leg in the 200 freestyle relay with a top time of 1:38.22.
Morgan McLain won three events for the women. McLain won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.58 seconds, 200 individual medley in 2:09.25 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.91.
Andrea Budahl won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:31.10., Samantha Fossum won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.80 and Kaylin Caron won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.87 seconds.
The Jacks take on Iowa State on Saturday at the HPER Center Pool starting at 1 p.m..
