IOWA CITY, Iowa — The South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team put a bow on the 2026 Summit League Championships Saturday night by closing out the four-day meet with a record-setting performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Jackrabbit quartet of Jenna Currier, Hannah Miller, Sara Juez and Gigi Hioki teamed for a school-record time of 3 minutes, 24.46 seconds in posting a third-place finish in the event. The previous mark of 3:25.78 by Devonne Dalin, Julia Bodnaruk, Nicole Grimit and Kaylin Caron had stood for a dozen years.
Earlier in the session, the trio of Currier, Miller and Juez competed in the 100 freestyle final. Currier placed fifth in 50.85 seconds, while Miller claimed the top spot in the B final to finish ninth overall with a time of 51.63. Currier moved into third place on the SDSU career charts in the event, with Miller checking in at No. 9.
In her B final appearance, Juez placed 11th in 52.24 seconds. Hailey Creary added a 14th-place showing in the 100 freestyle, 52.43 seconds.
Hioki also swam in an individual event final Saturday night, placing fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.14.
Poppy Mead placed eighth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.84 after swimming the 1,650 freestyle earlier in the day. She placed 14th in the mile with a time of 17:51.15) and was joined in the scoring column by teammates Marissa Renaud (12th, 17:48.25), Elyse Jahn (15th, 17:58.20) and Mira Celtikci (16th, 17:59.68).
The Jackrabbits also fielded a strong contingent of swimmers in the 200 breaststroke with two in the A final and two more in the B final. Marissa Branham led the way with a fifth-place time of 2:18.50 and Emma Ingalls placed eighth in 2:21.68. B finalists Annabelle MacAdams (2:23.39) and Jessalyn Carpenter (2:25.85) finished 14th and 16th respectively.
During the morning preliminaries, Ingalls turned in the sixth-fastest time in the event in program history with a mark of 2:18.42 and MacAdams took over the No. 10 spot with her time of 2:23.02.
Lily Esmas opened the day by qualifying for the A final in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.11 that now ranks fifth in program history. Esmas came back to clock a time of 2:02.67 during the night session to place sixth.
Freshman Lucia Lopez finished 15th in the 200 backstroke, 2:05.87.
In the team race, the Jackrabbits placed fourth out of seven squads with 458 points, marking an improvement of one spot in the team standings and an increase of 127 points from a year ago.
